Fly Fishing holiday destinationsIrelandMy second home (at least that’s what my wife says !) I have fished the great lakes of the west of Ireland for many years and have had some of my finest fishing days on the mighty Corrib it has also on more than one occasion driven me to distraction , but I still go back for more. As an example of the Corribs peculiar ways let me tell you about our April 2003 shop trip , myself and seven anglers had a weeks fishing on Corrib All of the guys on the trip except my boat partner were new to wild trout fishing and some had no boat experience at all, so the local boatmen I booked were essential to their fishing All the party caught fish during the first four days of the trip all that is except yours truly! Imagine how I felt the so called expert taking a party of anglers to Ireland and having to get advise from customers who up until that week had thought a ten acre heavily stocked pond was a lake ! However on my last day Corrib smiled on me and I had one of my best ever bags of fish from the lake, 5 fish total weight 20 ¼ lb smallest 2lb best 6lb a wonderful days fishing sweeter still was the fact that my pal Ted who had caught fish every day that week (and ribbed me every evening in the pub) Blanked !! a perfect day! SloveniaI had an eventful weeks fishing with Kevin Smith and a few friends in the beautifull Slovenian Alps. If falling down some stairs and waking up in a Slovenian hospital with seventeen stitches in your head cant put you off your fishing nothing will! Anywhere else and i would have been off home for tea and sympathy but the scenery and fishing are so good I just got myself a bigger hat and Fished! BelizeWe have had couple of very successful shop trips to Belize the fishing is ideal for saltwater fly fishing virgins the bonefish are plentiful and a grand slam (tarpon, bonefish and permit) is achievable our group had 3 slams in one week none to me unfortunately !!
